Carvedilol is a non-selective beta-blocker with alpha1-blocking activity. It reduces cardiac output, exercise-induced tachycardia, and reflex orthostatic tachycardia. It also decreases peripheral vascular resistance and has antioxidant properties.Indications:

Contraindications:
- Severe chronic heart failure requiring intravenous inotropic therapy
- Asthma or related bronchospastic conditions
- Second or third-degree AV block
- Severe bradycardia
- Severe hepatic impairment
- Cardiogenic shock
- Hypersensitivity to carvedilol or any component of the formulation

In order of decreasing probability: Dizziness, Fatigue, Hypotension, Diarrhea, Bradycardia, Weight gain, Hyperglycemia, Visual disturbances, Nausea, Vomiting
Dosing and Administration:
For hypertension, the initial dose is 6.25 mg twice daily, which may be increased after 7-14 days to 12.5 mg twice daily. For heart failure, the starting dose is 3.125 mg twice daily, which can be gradually increased every 2 weeks to the highest tolerated dose, up to 25 mg twice daily. Doses should be taken with food to slow the rate of absorption and reduce the risk of orthostatic hypotension.
