Paracetamol is an analgesic and antipyretic agent. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins in the central nervous system and through a peripheral action by blocking pain-impulse generation. It also acts on the hypothalamic heat-regulating center to produce antipyresis.Indications:
- Relief of mild to moderate pain such as headache, toothache, or muscle pain
- Reduction of fever
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to paracetamol or any of the excipients
- Severe liver impairment or active liver disease
Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Rare: Allergic reactions such as skin rash, Very rare: Thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, neutropenia, Extremely rare: Severe skin reactions
Dosing and Administration:
Adults and children over 12 years: 500 mg to 1000 mg every 4 to 6 hours as needed, not to exceed 4000 mg per day. Children 6 to 12 years: 250 mg to 500 mg every 4 to 6 hours as needed, not to exceed 2000 mg per day. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
Storage:
Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
