Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to clarithromycin or other macrolide antibiotics
- Severe liver impairment
- Concurrent use with certain drugs such as cisapride, pimozide, and ergotamine
Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Nausea, Diarrhea, Abdominal pain, Dyspepsia, Headache, Taste perversion, Liver enzyme abnormalities, Rash
Dosing and Administration:
The usual adult dose is 250 mg to 500 mg every 12 hours for 7 to 14 days, depending on the severity and type of infection. For Helicobacter pylori eradication, the recommended dose is 500 mg twice daily in combination with other medications, as prescribed by a healthcare provider.
