- Respiratory tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Helicobacter pylori eradication in peptic ulcer disease
- Acute otitis media
- Sinusitis
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to clarithromycin or other macrolide antibiotics
- Severe hepatic impairment
- Concomitant use with drugs that are substrates of CYP3A4
- History of QT prolongation or ventricular cardiac arrhythmia
- Hypokalemia
Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Nausea, Diarrhea, Abdominal pain, Dyspepsia, Headache, Taste perversion, Liver enzyme abnormalities, Rash, Dizziness, Insomnia
Dosing and Administration:
The usual adult dose is 250 mg to 500 mg twice daily for 7 to 14 days, depending on the severity of the infection. For Helicobacter pylori eradication, the recommended dose is 500 mg twice daily in combination with other medications as prescribed by a healthcare professional.
