Nitroxoline is an antibacterial agent that belongs to the group of hydroxyquinolines. It exhibits a broad spectrum of activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, as well as some fungi, by inhibiting bacterial DNA synthesis.Indications:
- Urinary tract infections caused by susceptible microorganisms
- Prophylaxis of infectious complications during diagnostic and surgical procedures on the urinary tract
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to nitroxoline or other components of the drug
- Severe renal impairment
- Severe hepatic impairment
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Children under the age of 3 years
Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Nausea, Vomiting, Loss of appetite, Headache, Dizziness, Allergic reactions (rash, itching)
Dosing and Administration:
Adults and children over 12 years: 100-200 mg 4 times a day. Maximum daily dose is 800 mg. Children 3-12 years: 10-30 mg/kg body weight per day, divided into 3-4 doses. The duration of treatment is usually 2-3 weeks. For prophylaxis, 100 mg 4 times a day for 2-3 weeks.
