Pharmachologic effect:

Suprax is a cephalosporin antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the death of the bacteria. It is effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Indications:


  • Upper respiratory tract infections
  • Lower respiratory tract infections
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Otitis media
  • Uncomplicated gonorrhea

Contraindications:


  • Hypersensitivity to cefixime or other cephalosporins
  • Severe renal impairment
  • History of severe allergic reaction to penicillins

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Diarrhea, Nausea, Abdominal pain, Headache, Dizziness, Rash, Pruritus, Elevated liver enzymes

Dosing and Administration:


The recommended dose for adults and children over 12 years is 400 mg per day, which can be administered as a single dose or divided into two doses of 200 mg every 12 hours. The duration of treatment depends on the type and severity of the infection, typically ranging from 7 to 14 days.
