Pharmachologic effect:

Rivaroxaban is an oral anticoagulant that works by inhibiting factor Xa, an essential component in the blood coagulation process, thereby preventing the formation of blood clots.

Indications:

• Prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation
• Treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE)
• Prevention of recurrent DVT and PE
• Prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients undergoing hip or knee replacement surgery

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to rivaroxaban or any of the excipients
• Active clinically significant bleeding
• Lesion or condition at significant risk of major bleeding
• Hepatic disease associated with coagulopathy and clinically relevant bleeding risk
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Side effects:

In order of decreasing probability: Common: bleeding events, anemia, nausea, Uncommon: thrombocytopenia, allergic reactions, dizziness, Rare: jaundice, liver enzyme increase, hypersensitivity reactions

Dosing and Administration:

The recommended dose of rivaroxaban is 20 mg taken orally once daily with food. For patients with moderate renal impairment, a dose of 15 mg once daily may be considered. The duration of treatment depends on the indication and should be determined by the healthcare provider.

Storage:

Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C (86°F).
