Pharmachologic effect:

Vimpat is an antiepileptic drug that works by stabilizing hyperexcitable neuronal membranes and inhibiting repetitive neuronal firing.

Indications:


  • Partial-onset seizures in patients aged 4 years and older
  • Adjunctive therapy for primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures in patients aged 4 years and older

Contraindications:


  • Hypersensitivity to lacosamide or any of the excipients
  • Severe cardiac conduction disorders such as second or third-degree AV block

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Dizziness, Headache, Nausea, Diplopia, Fatigue, Ataxia, Tremor, Vomiting, Vertigo, Depression

Dosing and Administration:


The recommended starting dose is 50 mg twice daily, which can be increased to a maintenance dose of 100 mg to 200 mg twice daily, based on individual patient response and tolerability. Dose adjustments may be necessary for patients with renal or hepatic impairment.

Storage:


Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
