Cerucal is an antiemetic and gastroprokinetic agent. It works by blocking dopamine receptors in the brain, which helps to reduce nausea and vomiting. Additionally, it enhances the motility of the upper gastrointestinal tract, facilitating gastric emptying and intestinal transit.Indications:
- Prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting associated with surgery, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy
- Symptomatic treatment of nausea and vomiting, including that associated with migraine
- Facilitation of small bowel intubation
- Management of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Diabetic gastroparesis
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to metoclopramide or any of the excipients
- Gastrointestinal bleeding, mechanical obstruction, or perforation
- Pheochromocytoma
- Epilepsy
- Parkinson's disease
- History of tardive dyskinesia with metoclopramide or other neuroleptics
Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Drowsiness, Fatigue, Restlessness, Extrapyramidal symptoms, Tardive dyskinesia, Diarrhea, Hypotension, Depression, Galactorrhea, Gynecomastia
Dosing and Administration:
The usual adult dose is 10 mg taken orally 3 times daily, 30 minutes before meals. The maximum recommended daily dose is 30 mg or 0.5 mg/kg body weight. Treatment duration should not exceed 5 days. Dosage adjustments may be necessary for patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
