The medication works by blocking a certain natural substance (histamine) that your body makes during an allergic reaction. Cetirizine tablets are typically taken once a day, providing 24-hour relief from typical allergy symptoms. Pharmachologic effect:

Cetirizine is an antihistamine that reduces the natural chemical histamine in the body. Histamine can produce symptoms of sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose.

Indications:


  • Seasonal allergic rhinitis
  • Perennial allergic rhinitis
  • Chronic idiopathic urticaria

Contraindications:


  • Hypersensitivity to cetirizine or any of its components
  • Severe renal impairment
  • End-stage renal disease

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Drowsiness, Fatigue, Dry mouth, Headache, Nausea, Dizziness

Dosing and Administration:


Adults and children over 6 years: 10 mg once daily. In some cases, 5 mg once daily may be sufficient. The tablets should be swallowed with a glass of water.

Storage:


Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
