Biltricide

Biltricide, containing the active ingredient Praziquantel, is formulated to treat a variety of parasitic infections. It is primarily effective against schistosomiasis and liver flukes. The tablets work by causing severe spasms and paralysis of the parasites' muscles, leading to their eventual death. This medication is typically prescribed for adults and children over a certain weight and age. It is most effective when taken as prescribed, usually in a single or divided dose. Biltricide tablets should be swallowed whole with water, without chewing. It is advisable to take it with meals to enhance absorption.

Biltricide is an anthelmintic medication that works by increasing the permeability of the cell membranes of susceptible worms, leading to paralysis and death of the parasites.

Indications:


  • Schistosomiasis
  • Clonorchiasis
  • Opisthorchiasis
  • Paragonimiasis
  • Neurocysticercosis
  • Taeniasis

Contraindications:


  • Hypersensitivity to praziquantel or any component of the formulation
  • Ocular cysticercosis
  • Severe hepatic impairment

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Headache, Dizziness, Nausea, Abdominal pain, Fatigue, Fever, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Allergic reactions

Dosing and Administration:


The dosage of Biltricide is determined by the type of infection and the patient's body weight. For schistosomiasis, the typical dose is 20 mg/kg taken three times a day at intervals of 4 to 6 hours. For other infections, the dosage may vary. It is important to follow the doctor's instructions precisely.

Storage:


Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C (86°F).
