Metronidazole is an antimicrobial agent with activity against anaerobic bacteria and certain parasites. It works by disrupting the DNA synthesis of the microorganisms, leading to their death.Indications:
- Treatment of anaerobic bacterial infections
- Treatment of protozoal infections such as giardiasis and trichomoniasis
- Prevention of infections following surgical procedures

Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to metronidazole or other nitroimidazole derivatives

Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Nausea, Headache, Metallic taste, Diarrhea, Dizziness, Abdominal pain, Rash, Peripheral neuropathy, Seizures
Dosing and Administration:
The usual adult dose for anaerobic infections is 500 mg orally every 6 to 8 hours for 7 to 10 days. For trichomoniasis, a single dose of 2 g orally is recommended. Dosage may vary based on the specific condition being treated and patient response.
