Pharmachologic effect:

Tizanidine is a muscle relaxant that works by blocking nerve impulses (pain sensations) that are sent to your brain. It is used to treat spasticity by temporarily relaxing muscle tone.

Indications:


  • Muscle spasticity
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Multiple sclerosis

Contraindications:


  • Hypersensitivity to tizanidine
  • Severe liver impairment
  • Concomitant use with ciprofloxacin or fluvoxamine

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Drowsiness, Dizziness, Dry mouth, Fatigue, Hypotension, Bradycardia, Liver function test abnormalities

Dosing and Administration:


The recommended starting dose is 2 mg up to three times daily. The dose may be increased by 2 to 4 mg at intervals of 1 to 4 days until the desired effect is achieved. The total daily dose should not exceed 36 mg.

Storage:


Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
