Pharmachologic effect:

Betahistine is a histamine analogue that improves microcirculation in the inner ear, reducing endolymphatic pressure and alleviating symptoms of vertigo. It also enhances blood flow in the brainstem.

Indications:


  • Meniere's disease
  • Vestibular vertigo
  • Tinnitus
  • Hearing loss associated with vestibular disorders

Contraindications:


  • Pheochromocytoma
  • History of peptic ulcer
  • Hypersensitivity to betahistine or any of the excipients

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Nausea, Dyspepsia, Headache, Mild gastric discomfort, Allergic skin reactions such as rash and pruritus

Dosing and Administration:


The recommended dose is 24-48 mg per day, divided into two or three doses. Tablets should be taken with meals to minimize gastric discomfort.

Storage:


Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
