Pharmachologic effect:

Betahistine is a histamine analog that acts as a vasodilator, improving microcirculation in the inner ear, which helps reduce vertigo symptoms and improve hearing loss associated with Ménière's disease.

Indications:


  • Ménière's disease
  • Vestibular vertigo
  • Tinnitus

Contraindications:


  • Hypersensitivity to betahistine or any of the excipients
  • Pheochromocytoma
  • During pregnancy and lactation without medical supervision

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Nausea, Dyspepsia, Headache, Mild gastric discomfort, Allergic skin reactions such as rash or pruritus

Dosing and Administration:


The recommended starting dose is 8 to 16 mg taken three times a day, with or after meals. The maintenance dose is usually between 24 and 48 mg per day. Dosage should be adjusted based on clinical response and tolerance.

Storage:


Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
