Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that suppresses gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the gastric H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cell.Indications:
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Duodenal ulcers
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
- Erosive esophagitis
- Helicobacter pylori eradication in combination with appropriate antibiotics
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to rabeprazole, substituted benzimidazoles, or any component of the formulation
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Severe hepatic impairment

In order of decreasing probability: Headache, Diarrhea, Nausea, Abdominal pain, Flatulence, Rash, Dizziness, Constipation
Dosing and Administration:
The usual recommended dose is 20 mg once daily. The duration of treatment varies depending on the condition being treated. For GERD, treatment is typically 4 to 8 weeks. For duodenal ulcers, treatment is usually 4 weeks. For Helicobacter pylori eradication, rabeprazole is used in combination with antibiotics for 7 to 14 days.
