Tamiflu

Tamiflu, with its active ingredient Oseltamivir, is an antiviral medication used primarily to treat and prevent influenza A and B. Available in capsule form, Tamiflu works by inhibiting the neuraminidase enzyme, thereby blocking the spread of the virus within the body. It is most effective when taken within 48 hours of the onset of flu symptoms. Tamiflu is suitable for adults and children over the age of one. Pharmachologic effect:

Tamiflu is an antiviral medication that blocks the actions of influenza virus types A and B in the body. It works by inhibiting the enzyme neuraminidase, which is essential for the viral replication process.

Indications:


  • Treatment of influenza in patients 1 year and older who have been symptomatic for no more than 2 days.
  • Prophylaxis of influenza in patients 1 year and older.

Contraindications:


  • Hypersensitivity to oseltamivir phosphate or any component of the formulation.
  • Severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance ≤10 mL/min).

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Nausea, Vomiting, Headache, Fatigue, Diarrhea, Abdominal pain, Insomnia, Cough

Dosing and Administration:


For treatment of influenza, the recommended oral dose for adults and adolescents 13 years and older is 75 mg twice daily for 5 days. For prophylaxis, the recommended dose is 75 mg once daily for at least 10 days following close contact with an infected individual.

Storage:


Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
