Ivabradin Canon

Ivabradine Canon is a medication primarily used to manage chronic heart failure and stable angina pectoris. These tablets work by selectively inhibiting the If current in the sinoatrial node, which leads to a reduction in heart rate without affecting myocardial contractility or intracardiac conduction. This makes it particularly beneficial for patients who cannot tolerate beta-blockers. Ivabradine Canon is typically prescribed for adults who have a resting heart rate of at least 70 beats per minute. It helps improve heart efficiency and reduce the frequency of angina attacks, enhancing the patient's quality of life. The medication is available in tablet form, ensuring ease of use and precise dosage.

Active substance:

Ivabradine

Pharmachologic effect:

Ivabradine is a heart rate lowering agent that acts by selectively inhibiting the If current in the sinoatrial node, which is responsible for regulating heart rate. This action reduces heart rate, thereby decreasing myocardial oxygen demand and improving exercise tolerance in patients with chronic heart failure and angina.

Indications:

  • Chronic heart failure with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction
  • Stable angina pectoris in patients with normal sinus rhythm

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to ivabradine or any of the excipients
  • Resting heart rate below 60 beats per minute prior to treatment
  • Severe hepatic impairment
  • Acute myocardial infarction
  • Cardiogenic shock
  • Severe hypotension
  • Sick sinus syndrome
  • Pacemaker dependence
  • Unstable or acute heart failure

Side effects:

In order of decreasing probability: Bradycardia, Atrial fibrillation, Visual disturbances (phosphenes), Headache, Dizziness, Hypertension, Nausea

Dosing and Administration:

The recommended starting dose of Ivabradine is 5 mg twice daily. After two weeks of treatment, the dose can be increased to 7.5 mg twice daily if the resting heart rate is persistently above 60 beats per minute. If the heart rate is between 50 and 60 beats per minute, the dose should be maintained. If the heart rate falls below 50 beats per minute or the patient experiences symptoms related to bradycardia, the dose should be reduced to 2.5 mg twice daily or discontinued if necessary.

Storage:

Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
