Pharmachologic effect:

Indications:

Acute treatment of migraine attacks with or without aura in adults.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to sumatriptan or any of the excipients
History of myocardial infarction
Coronary artery disease or vasospastic angina
Peripheral vascular disease
History of stroke or transient ischemic attack
Severe hepatic impairment
Uncontrolled hypertension
Concurrent administration with, or within 2 weeks of discontinuing, MAO inhibitors
Concurrent use of ergotamine or its derivatives

Side effects:

In order of decreasing probability: Tingling sensation, Warm or cold sensations, Dizziness, Drowsiness, Fatigue, Nausea, Vomiting, Muscle pain, Flushing, Chest discomfort

Dosing and Administration:

The recommended dose for adults is a single 50 mg tablet taken with water. Some patients may require 100 mg. If the migraine persists or returns, a second dose may be taken at least 2 hours after the first dose. Do not exceed 200 mg in a 24-hour period.
