Indications:

Epilepsy
Trigeminal neuralgia
Bipolar disorder
Neuropathic pain

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to carbamazepine or tricyclic antidepressants
Bone marrow depression
History of hepatic porphyrias
Concurrent use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)

Side effects:

In order of decreasing probability: Dizziness, Drowsiness, Nausea, Vomiting, Ataxia, Blurred vision, Rash, Hyponatremia, Leukopenia

Dosing and Administration:

The initial dose for adults is typically 100-200 mg once or twice daily. The dose may be gradually increased by 100-200 mg every week until the optimal response is achieved. The usual maintenance dose ranges from 800-1200 mg per day, divided into two or three doses. Dosage should be adjusted based on clinical response and tolerance.
