Torvacard

Torvacard is a medication containing Atorvastatin, primarily used to lower cholesterol levels in the blood. It belongs to a class of drugs known as statins, which work by reducing the production of cholesterol in the liver. This helps in preventing cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack and stroke. Torvacard is effective in reducing 'bad' LDL cholesterol and triglycerides while increasing 'good' HDL cholesterol. Pharmachologic effect:

Torvacard is a lipid-lowering medication that inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme involved in the production of cholesterol in the liver. It helps to reduce levels of 'bad' cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides in the blood while increasing 'good' cholesterol (HDL).

Indications:


  • Hypercholesterolemia
  • Mixed dyslipidemia
  • Prevention of cardiovascular disease in patients with multiple risk factors

Contraindications:


  • Hypersensitivity to atorvastatin or any component of the drug
  • Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases
  • Pregnancy and lactation
  • Women of childbearing potential not using appropriate contraceptive measures

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Common: headache, nasopharyngitis, arthralgia, diarrhea, Uncommon: insomnia, dizziness, nausea, myalgia, Rare: hypersensitivity reactions, pancreatitis, hepatitis, Very rare: anaphylaxis, rhabdomyolysis, liver failure

Dosing and Administration:


The usual starting dose is 10 mg once daily. The dose range is 10 to 80 mg once daily. Adjustments should be made at intervals of 4 weeks or more. The maximum dose is 80 mg once daily.

Storage:


Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
