Pharmachologic effect:

Indications:

Hypercholesterolemia

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to atorvastatin or any component of the formulation
Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases

Side effects:

In order of decreasing probability: Common: Headache, nasopharyngitis, arthralgia, diarrhea, Uncommon: Myalgia, insomnia, dizziness, nausea, Rare: Rhabdomyolysis, liver enzyme abnormalities, hypersensitivity reactions

Dosing and Administration:

The recommended starting dose of atorvastatin is 10 mg once daily. The dosage may be adjusted at intervals of 4 weeks or more, based on patient response, up to a maximum of 80 mg once daily. Atorvastatin can be administered at any time of the day, with or without food.

Storage:

Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
