Metoprolol is a selective beta1-adrenoreceptor blocker that reduces heart rate, cardiac output, and blood pressure. It decreases myocardial oxygen demand and is used to manage hypertension, angina pectoris, and heart failure.Indications:

Contraindications:
- Severe bradycardia
- Second or third-degree heart block
- Cardiogenic shock
- Overt cardiac failure
- Hypersensitivity to metoprolol or other beta-blockers
Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Fatigue, Dizziness, Depression, Shortness of breath, Bradycardia, Hypotension, Cold extremities, Gastrointestinal disturbances, Rash
Dosing and Administration:
The recommended starting dose for hypertension is 100 mg daily, either as a single dose or divided into two doses. Dosage may be adjusted based on patient response, typically ranging from 100 mg to 400 mg per day. For angina pectoris, the usual dose is 100-200 mg per day in divided doses. In heart failure, the initial dose is 12.5-25 mg once daily, gradually increased to a maximum of 200 mg per day as tolerated.
