Trimetazidine is an anti-ischemic metabolic agent that improves myocardial glucose utilization through inhibition of fatty acid metabolism. It helps to maintain energy metabolism of heart and neurosensory tissues during episodes of ischemia, preventing a decrease in intracellular ATP levels.Indications:
- Symptomatic treatment of stable angina pectoris
- Adjunctive therapy in the management of angina
- Treatment of vertigo and tinnitus
- Supportive treatment of reduced visual acuity and visual field disturbances presumably of vascular origin
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to trimetazidine or any of the excipients
- Parkinson's disease, parkinsonian symptoms, tremors, restless leg syndrome, and other related movement disorders
- Severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance less than 30 ml/min)
- Pregnancy and lactation
Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Common: Dizziness, headache, Uncommon: Abdominal pain, diarrhea, dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, Rare: Palpitations, extrasystoles, tachycardia, Very rare: Agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, thrombocytopenic purpura
Dosing and Administration:
The recommended dose is one tablet of 35 mg twice daily, in the morning and evening, during meals. The dosage may be adjusted based on the patient's response and tolerance.
Storage:
Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
