Clindamycin is an antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, thus preventing peptide bond formation. It is effective against a wide range of gram-positive bacteria and some anaerobic bacteria.Indications:
- Treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria
- Treatment of serious infections due to susceptible strains of streptococci, pneumococci, and staphylococci
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Respiratory tract infections
- Intra-abdominal infections
- Pelvic infections
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to clindamycin or lincomycin
- History of antibiotic-associated colitis

In order of decreasing probability: Diarrhea, Nausea, Abdominal pain, Rash, Urticaria, Esophagitis, Pseudomembranous colitis, Elevated liver enzymes, Neutropenia
Dosing and Administration:
For adults, the usual dose is 150 to 450 mg every 6 hours, depending on the severity of the infection. For children, the dose is 8 to 25 mg/kg/day divided into 3 or 4 equal doses. It is recommended to take the capsules with a full glass of water to avoid esophageal irritation.
