Coraxan
Coraxan contains Ivabradine, a medication primarily used to manage heart rate in patients with certain cardiovascular conditions. It works by selectively inhibiting the If current in the heart, which reduces the heart rate without affecting blood pressure or myocardial contractility. This makes it a valuable option for patients who need to lower their heart rate to reduce the risk of acute cardiac events. Typically prescribed for chronic stable angina and heart failure, Coraxan helps improve exercise tolerance and overall cardiac function. It is available in tablet form for convenient dosing. Regular monitoring by a healthcare professional is recommended to ensure optimal treatment outcomes.Active substance:
IvabradinePharmachologic effect:
Coraxan is a heart rate lowering agent that works by selectively inhibiting the If current in the sinoatrial node, which results in a reduction of heart rate. This action helps to decrease myocardial oxygen demand and improve myocardial perfusion.Indications:
- Chronic stable angina pectoris in patients with normal sinus rhythm
- Chronic heart failure with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to ivabradine or any of the excipients
- Resting heart rate below 60 beats per minute prior to treatment
- Cardiogenic shock
- Acute myocardial infarction
- Severe hypotension (blood pressure < 90/50 mmHg)
- Severe hepatic insufficiency
- Sick sinus syndrome
- Sinoatrial block
- Unstable or acute heart failure
- Pacemaker dependent (heart rate imposed exclusively by the pacemaker)
- Concomitant use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors
Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Bradycardia, Phosphenes (visual brightness), Headache, Dizziness, Blurred vision, Atrial fibrillation, Nausea, Constipation, Diarrhea, Muscle cramps
Dosing and Administration:
The recommended starting dose of Coraxan is 5 mg twice daily. After three to four weeks of treatment, the dose may be increased to 7.5 mg twice daily if the resting heart rate is persistently above 60 beats per minute. In elderly patients, a lower starting dose of 2.5 mg twice daily may be considered.
Storage:
Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
