Gliclazide is a sulfonylurea class hypoglycemic agent that stimulates insulin secretion from the beta cells of the pancreas. It helps in controlling blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.Indications:
- Type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet, exercise, and weight loss alone do not result in adequate glycemic control.
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to gliclazide or any of the excipients
- Type 1 diabetes mellitus
- Diabetic ketoacidosis
- Diabetic pre-coma and coma
- Severe renal or hepatic insufficiency
- Treatment with miconazole
- Pregnancy and lactation
Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Hypoglycemia, Nausea, Vomiting, Abdominal pain, Diarrhea, Constipation, Dizziness, Headache, Skin reactions such as rash, itching, or urticaria
Dosing and Administration:
The recommended starting dose is 30 mg once daily. The dose may be adjusted based on the patient's response, with a maximum dose of 120 mg per day. It is advised to take the medication with breakfast.
