Diacarb is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor that reduces the formation of hydrogen and bicarbonate ions, leading to decreased production of aqueous humor in the eye and cerebrospinal fluid, and increased excretion of bicarbonate, sodium, potassium, and water in the urine.Indications:
- Glaucoma

Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to acetazolamide or any component of the formulation
- Severe renal dysfunction
- Severe hepatic dysfunction
- Adrenal gland failure
- Hyponatremia
- Hypokalemia
- Chronic non-congestive angle-closure glaucoma
Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Common: Paresthesia, loss of appetite, taste alteration, polyuria, Uncommon: Drowsiness, confusion, dizziness, headache, Rare: Blood disorders, metabolic acidosis, kidney stones, skin rashes
Dosing and Administration:
For adults, the usual dose is 250-375 mg once daily in the morning. For glaucoma, the dose is 250 mg to 1 g per day in divided doses. For epilepsy, 250-1000 mg per day in divided doses. For acute mountain sickness, 500-1000 mg per day in divided doses. Dosage should be adjusted based on individual response and condition.
