- Edema associated with congestive heart failure

Contraindications:
- Anuria (inability to produce urine)
- Severe electrolyte depletion
- Hypersensitivity to furosemide or sulfonamides
- Hepatic coma or pre-coma states
Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Hypokalemia (low potassium levels), Dehydration, Hyponatremia (low sodium levels), Hypotension, Dizziness, Headache, Nausea, Vomiting, Muscle cramps, Rash
Dosing and Administration:
The usual adult dose for edema is 20 to 80 mg taken as a single dose. If the diuretic response is not satisfactory, the dose may be increased by 20 to 40 mg every 6 to 8 hours until the desired effect is achieved. For hypertension, the typical dose is 40 mg twice daily. Dosage should be adjusted based on the patient's response and clinical condition.
