Duloxetine is a selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SSNRI) that increases the levels of these neurotransmitters in the central nervous system, which helps to improve mood and alleviate pain.Indications:
- Major depressive disorder
- Generalized anxiety disorder
- Diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain

- Chronic musculoskeletal pain
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to duloxetine or any component of the formulation
- Concomitant use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)
- Uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma
- Severe renal impairment
- Chronic liver disease
Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Nausea, Dry mouth, Drowsiness, Fatigue, Constipation, Decreased appetite, Increased sweating, Dizziness, Insomnia, Headache
Dosing and Administration:
The recommended starting dose for major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder is 60 mg once daily. For diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, and chronic musculoskeletal pain, the starting dose is also 60 mg once daily. The dose may be adjusted based on clinical response and tolerability. Capsules should be swallowed whole, with or without food.
