Ondansetron is a selective serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist. It works by blocking the action of serotonin, a natural substance that may cause nausea and vomiting.Indications:
- Prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy
- Prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to ondansetron or any of the excipients
- Concurrent use with apomorphine

In order of decreasing probability: Headache, Constipation, Dizziness, Fatigue, Diarrhea, Flushing, Hypersensitivity reactions
Dosing and Administration:
For adults, the recommended oral dosage for the prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting is 8 mg taken 1 to 2 hours before chemotherapy, followed by 8 mg every 12 hours for 1 to 2 days after completion of chemotherapy. For the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting, a single dose of 16 mg is recommended 1 hour before anesthesia.
