Fluconazole is an antifungal medication that inhibits the growth of various types of fungi by interfering with the formation of the fungal cell membrane.Indications:
- Candidiasis of the oral cavity and esophagus
- Vaginal candidiasis
- Cryptococcal meningitis
- Systemic candidiasis
- Prophylaxis of fungal infections in patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to fluconazole or other azole antifungal agents
- Concurrent use with drugs that are known to prolong the QT interval and are metabolized by CYP3A4
- Pregnancy and lactation unless the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus or infant

In order of decreasing probability: Common: Headache, nausea, abdominal pain, Uncommon: Diarrhea, dyspepsia, dizziness, Rare: Hepatotoxicity, severe skin reactions, QT prolongation
Dosing and Administration:
For oropharyngeal candidiasis, the recommended dose is 200 mg on the first day, followed by 100 mg once daily. For vaginal candidiasis, a single dose of 150 mg is recommended.
