It is used to treat fluid retention (edema) in people with congestive heart failure, liver disease, or a kidney disorder such as nephrotic syndrome. This medication is also used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).Indications:
- Edema associated with congestive heart failure

Contraindications:
- Anuria
- Severe electrolyte depletion
- Hypersensitivity to furosemide or sulfonamides
- Hepatic coma or pre-coma states
Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Hypokalemia, Hyponatremia, Dehydration, Hypotension, Dizziness, Headache, Blurred vision, Hearing loss, Tinnitus, Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Constipation, Rash, Pruritus
Dosing and Administration:
The usual initial dose for adults is 20 to 80 mg as a single dose. If the diuretic response to a single dose of 20 to 80 mg is not satisfactory, the dose may be increased by increments of 20 to 40 mg, not sooner than 6 to 8 hours after the previous dose, until the desired diuretic effect has been obtained. The maintenance dose may be adjusted to the lowest effective dose.
