Pantoprazole

Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach. It works by blocking the enzyme in the wall of the stomach that produces acid, thereby reducing acidity and allowing healing of ulcers and esophagitis.Indications:
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Erosive esophagitis
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
- Gastric and duodenal ulcers
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to pantoprazole or any component of the formulation
- Severe liver impairment
- Concomitant use with atazanavir or nelfinavir
Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Headache, Diarrhea, Nausea, Abdominal pain, Flatulence, Dizziness, Joint pain
Dosing and Administration:
The recommended dose for adults is 40 mg once daily. For the treatment of erosive esophagitis, the usual duration is 8 weeks. For maintenance therapy, the dose may be adjusted based on the patient's response. Pantoprazole tablets should be swallowed whole, with or without food.
Storage:
Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
