Ursosan has a hepatoprotective effect, reducing the cholesterol saturation of bile, promoting the dissolution of cholesterol gallstones, and improving liver enzyme levels.Indications:
- Dissolution of cholesterol gallstones
- Biliary reflux gastritis
- Primary biliary cirrhosis
- Chronic hepatitis
- Cystic fibrosis-related liver disease
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to ursodeoxycholic acid
- Acute inflammation of the gallbladder or biliary tract
- Obstruction of the biliary tract
- Frequent episodes of biliary colic
- Radiopaque calcified gallstones
- Impaired contractility of the gallbladder
Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Diarrhea, Nausea, Vomiting, Abdominal pain, Allergic reactions, Calcification of gallstones
Dosing and Administration:
The recommended dose for adults is 10 mg/kg to 15 mg/kg of body weight per day, taken in the evening. The capsules should be swallowed whole with water. The duration of treatment depends on the indication and should be determined by a healthcare professional.
