Enalapril

Enalapril is an ACE inhibitor used primarily for managing hypertension. By relaxing blood vessels, it helps reduce blood pressure, making it easier for the heart to pump blood. Pharmachologic effect:

Enalapril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor that is used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure. It works by relaxing blood vessels, making it easier for the heart to pump blood and reducing blood pressure.

Indications:


  • Hypertension
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction

Contraindications:


  • Hypersensitivity to enalapril or any other ACE inhibitors
  • History of angioedema related to previous ACE inhibitor therapy
  • Hereditary or idiopathic angioedema
  • Pregnancy
  • Severe renal impairment

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Dizziness, Headache, Fatigue, Cough, Nausea, Diarrhea, Rash, Hypotension, Hyperkalemia, Renal impairment

Dosing and Administration:


The initial dose for hypertension is 5 mg once daily. The dose may be adjusted based on blood pressure response, with a usual maintenance dose of 10 to 20 mg per day, taken as a single dose or in two divided doses. For heart failure, the initial dose is 2.5 mg once daily, which may be gradually increased to a usual maintenance dose of 20 mg per day in divided doses.

Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
