Monopril, known generically as Fosinopril, is an ACE inhibitor used primarily for treating hypertension. Pharmachologic effect:

Monopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor that helps to lower blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels, making it easier for the heart to pump blood.

Indications:


  • Hypertension
  • Heart failure

Contraindications:


  • Hypersensitivity to fosinopril or any other ACE inhibitors
  • History of angioedema related to previous ACE inhibitor treatment
  • Hereditary or idiopathic angioedema
  • Pregnancy
  • Severe renal impairment

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Dizziness, Cough, Headache, Fatigue, Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Rash, Hyperkalemia

Dosing and Administration:


The recommended starting dose of Monopril is 10 mg once daily. The dosage may be adjusted according to the patient's response, up to a maximum of 40 mg per day. It can be taken with or without food.

Storage:


Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
