Monopril

Monopril, known generically as Fosinopril, is an ACE inhibitor used primarily for treating hypertension. It helps relax blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more smoothly and the heart to pump more efficiently. Monopril is also prescribed for managing heart failure, enhancing patient heart function and improving quality of life. The tablets are taken orally, usually once daily, with or without food. Pharmachologic effect:

Monopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor that helps to lower blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels, making it easier for the heart to pump blood.

Indications:


  • Hypertension
  • Heart failure

Contraindications:


  • Hypersensitivity to fosinopril or any other ACE inhibitors
  • History of angioedema related to previous ACE inhibitor treatment
  • Hereditary or idiopathic angioedema
  • Pregnancy
  • Severe renal impairment

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Dizziness, Cough, Headache, Fatigue, Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Rash, Hyperkalemia

Dosing and Administration:


The recommended starting dose of Monopril is 10 mg once daily. The dosage may be adjusted according to the patient's response, up to a maximum of 40 mg per day. It can be taken with or without food.

Storage:


Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
