Pharmachologic effect:

Amprilan is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor that works by relaxing blood vessels, making it easier for the heart to pump blood and reducing blood pressure.

Indications:

Hypertension
Congestive heart failure
Post-myocardial infarction
Reduction of cardiovascular risk in patients with increased risk of heart attack or stroke

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to ramipril or any other ACE inhibitors
History of angioedema related to previous ACE inhibitor therapy
Pregnancy and lactation
Severe renal impairment
Bilateral renal artery stenosis

Side effects:

In order of decreasing probability: Common: Dizziness, headache, fatigue, Uncommon: Cough, nausea, vomiting, Rare: Angioedema, hyperkalemia, renal impairment

Dosing and Administration:

The recommended initial dose for hypertension is 2.5 mg once daily. Depending on the patient's response, the dose may be increased to a maintenance dose of 2.5 mg to 20 mg per day, administered as a single dose or in two divided doses. For heart failure, the initial dose is 1.25 mg once daily, which may be gradually increased to a maximum of 10 mg per day.
