Pharmachologic effect:

Bisoprolol is a selective beta1-adrenergic receptor blocker. It reduces heart rate, cardiac output, and blood pressure, and is used to manage hypertension and angina pectoris.

Indications:


  • Hypertension
  • Chronic stable angina pectoris
  • Chronic heart failure with reduced systolic left ventricular function

Contraindications:


  • Acute heart failure
  • Cardiogenic shock
  • Second or third-degree AV block
  • Severe bradycardia
  • Severe hypotension
  • Severe bronchial asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  • Hypersensitivity to bisoprolol or any component of the formulation

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Fatigue, Dizziness, Headache, Bradycardia, Hypotension, Cold extremities, Nausea, Diarrhea, Constipation, Muscle weakness

Dosing and Administration:


The recommended starting dose is 5 mg once daily. Depending on the patient's response, the dose may be increased to 10 mg once daily. In some cases, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 20 mg once daily.

Storage:


Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
