Pharmachologic effect:

Bisoprolol is a selective beta1-adrenergic receptor blocker that reduces heart rate, cardiac output, and blood pressure. It is used to manage hypertension and angina pectoris by decreasing myocardial oxygen demand.

Indications:

Hypertension
Chronic stable angina pectoris
Chronic heart failure with reduced systolic left ventricular function

Contraindications:

Severe bradycardia
Cardiogenic shock
Overt cardiac failure
Second or third-degree AV block
Severe asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Severe peripheral arterial circulatory disorders
Hypersensitivity to bisoprolol or any of the excipients

Side effects:

In order of decreasing probability: Fatigue, Dizziness, Headache, Bradycardia, Hypotension, Cold extremities, Nausea, Diarrhea, Constipation, Muscle weakness

Dosing and Administration:

The recommended starting dose is 5 mg once daily. Depending on the patient's response, the dose may be increased to 10 mg once daily. In some cases, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 20 mg once daily. It is recommended to take the tablet in the morning with or without food.
