Pharmachologic effect:

Lisinopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor that helps relax blood vessels, making it easier for the heart to pump blood. It is used to treat high blood pressure, heart failure, and to improve survival after a heart attack.

Indications:


  • Hypertension
  • Heart failure
  • Acute myocardial infarction
  • Diabetic nephropathy

Contraindications:


  • Hypersensitivity to lisinopril or any other ACE inhibitors
  • History of angioedema related to previous ACE inhibitor treatment
  • Hereditary or idiopathic angioedema
  • Pregnancy
  • Severe renal impairment

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Common: Dizziness, headache, persistent cough, Less common: Fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, Rare: Angioedema, hyperkalemia, renal impairment

Dosing and Administration:


The usual starting dose for hypertension is 10 mg once daily. For heart failure, the initial dose is 2.5 mg once daily. Dosage may be adjusted based on patient response and clinical condition, with a typical maintenance dose ranging from 20 to 40 mg per day. It can be taken with or without food.

Storage:


Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
