Pharmachologic effect:

Ranolazine is an anti-anginal medication that works by improving blood flow to help the heart work more efficiently. It reduces the frequency of angina attacks by inhibiting the late phase of the inward sodium current in heart muscle cells, which reduces the intracellular sodium and calcium overload, thereby improving myocardial relaxation and reducing anginal symptoms.

Severe renal impairment

Known hypersensitivity to ranolazine or any of the excipients
Concomitant use with strong CYP3A inhibitors

Side effects:

In order of decreasing probability: Dizziness, Headache, Constipation, Nausea, Palpitations, Peripheral edema, Hypotension, Syncope

Dosing and Administration:

The recommended starting dose of Ranexa is 500 mg twice daily. Based on clinical symptoms, the dose may be increased to 1000 mg twice daily. The maximum recommended daily dose is 2000 mg. Ranexa can be taken with or without food. Tablets should be swallowed whole and not crushed, broken, or chewed.
