Pharmachologic effect:

Escitalopram is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that increases the levels of serotonin in the brain, which helps improve mood and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Indications:


  • Major depressive disorder
  • Generalized anxiety disorder
  • Social anxiety disorder
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder

Contraindications:


  • Hypersensitivity to escitalopram or any of the excipients
  • Concurrent use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)
  • Known QT interval prolongation or congenital long QT syndrome

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Nausea, Insomnia, Dry mouth, Dizziness, Increased sweating, Fatigue, Somnolence, Diarrhea, Constipation, Decreased libido

Dosing and Administration:


The recommended starting dose is 10 mg once daily, which can be increased to a maximum of 20 mg per day depending on the patient's response and tolerability. The tablets should be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day.

Storage:


Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
