Nitroxoline is an antibacterial agent that belongs to the group of 8-hydroxyquinoline derivatives. It exhibits a broad spectrum of activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, as well as some fungi, by inhibiting bacterial DNA synthesis.Indications:
- Urinary tract infections caused by susceptible microorganisms
- Prophylaxis of infectious complications during surgical interventions on the kidneys and urinary tract
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to nitroxoline or other components of the drug
- Severe renal impairment
- Severe hepatic impairment
- Deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Headache, Dizziness, Allergic reactions (rash, itching), Peripheral neuropathy
Dosing and Administration:
The recommended dose for adults is 100-200 mg taken orally 4 times a day. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 800 mg.
