Bravadin

Bravadin is formulated with Ivabradine, a medication specifically designed to manage heart rate in patients with chronic heart failure and angina. By selectively inhibiting the If current in the sinoatrial node, it reduces the heart rate, thereby improving heart efficiency and oxygen supply. These tablets are often recommended for patients who cannot tolerate beta-blockers or require additional heart rate control. Bravadin helps in reducing the frequency of angina attacks and enhances the overall quality of life. It is usually taken twice daily with meals for optimal absorption. Consistent use as prescribed can significantly aid in managing heart conditions effectively.

Pharmachologic effect:

Bravadin is a selective sinus node If current inhibitor that reduces heart rate, leading to decreased myocardial oxygen demand and improved myocardial perfusion.

Indications:


  • Chronic stable angina pectoris in patients with normal sinus rhythm
  • Chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction

Contraindications:


  • Hypersensitivity to ivabradine or any of the excipients
  • Resting heart rate below 60 beats per minute before treatment
  • Cardiogenic shock
  • Acute myocardial infarction
  • Severe hypotension (blood pressure < 90/50 mmHg)
  • Severe hepatic insufficiency
  • Pacemaker-dependent patients
  • Concomitant use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Very common: Luminous phenomena (phosphenes), Common: Bradycardia, headache, dizziness, Uncommon: Atrial fibrillation, palpitations, extrasystoles, Rare: Angioedema, erythema, rash

Dosing and Administration:


The recommended starting dose of Bravadin is 5 mg twice daily. Depending on the patient's response, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 7.5 mg twice daily. The dose should be adjusted based on heart rate and clinical response.

Storage:


Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
