Pharmachologic effect:

Rosuvastatin is a selective and competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, the enzyme responsible for the conversion of HMG-CoA to mevalonate, a precursor of cholesterol. It primarily acts in the liver, the site of cholesterol synthesis and LDL clearance, leading to an increase in the number of hepatic LDL receptors on the cell-surface and enhanced uptake and catabolism of LDL.
