Bisacodyl is a stimulant laxative that works by increasing the movement of the intestines, helping the stool to come out.Indications:
- Constipation
- Preparation for diagnostic procedures
- Pre- and postoperative treatment where defecation with a soft stool is desired
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to bisacodyl
- Intestinal obstruction
- Acute abdominal conditions including appendicitis
- Severe abdominal pain associated with nausea and vomiting
- Severe dehydration
- Children under 6 years of age
Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Abdominal cramps, Diarrhea, Nausea, Vomiting, Dizziness, Electrolyte imbalance, Allergic reactions
Dosing and Administration:
Adults and children over 12 years: 5-15 mg (1-3 tablets) once daily before bedtime. Children 6-12 years: 5 mg (1 tablet) once daily before bedtime. The tablets should be swallowed whole with water.
Storage:
