Losartan-AKOS is a medication formulated to manage high blood pressure, helping to prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Losartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist that reduces blood pressure by blocking the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II.Indications:
- Hypertension
- Heart failure
- Reduction of stroke risk in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy
- Diabetic nephropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes and a history of hypertension
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to losartan or any component of the formulation
- Pregnancy
- Severe hepatic impairment
- Concomitant use with aliskiren in patients with diabetes
Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Dizziness, Upper respiratory infection, Nasal congestion, Back pain, Fatigue, Hypotension, Hyperkalemia, Renal impairment
Dosing and Administration:
The usual starting dose is 50 mg once daily. The dosage may be adjusted based on blood pressure response, with a typical range of 25 mg to 100 mg per day, administered in one or two divided doses.
Storage:
Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
