Pharmachologic effect:

Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that exhibits anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic properties. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are mediators of inflammation and pain.

Indications:


  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Ankylosing spondylitis

Contraindications:


  • Hypersensitivity to meloxicam or any other components of the drug
  • History of asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs
  • Active gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation
  • Severe hepatic impairment
  • Severe renal impairment without dialysis
  • Pregnancy and lactation
  • Children under 15 years of age

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Nausea, Vomiting, Abdominal pain, Diarrhea, Constipation, Dizziness, Headache, Skin rash, Edema, Hypertension

Dosing and Administration:


The recommended starting dose is 7.5 mg once daily. Depending on the therapeutic response, the dose may be increased to 15 mg once daily. The maximum recommended daily dose is 15 mg. The tablets should be taken with water, preferably with food.

Storage:


Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
