Pharmachologic effect:

Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that exhibits anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic properties. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are mediators of inflammation and pain.

Indications:


  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Ankylosing spondylitis

Contraindications:


  • Hypersensitivity to meloxicam or any other components of the drug
  • History of asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs
  • Active gastrointestinal bleeding or peptic ulcer
  • Severe liver or kidney impairment
  • Pregnancy and lactation
  • Children under 16 years of age

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Common: Dyspepsia, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, Uncommon: Dizziness, headache, skin rash, Rare: Gastrointestinal bleeding, peptic ulcer, liver enzyme elevation, Very rare: Anaphylactic reactions, severe skin reactions

Dosing and Administration:


The recommended starting dose of meloxicam is 7.5 mg once daily. Depending on the patient's response, the dose may be increased to 15 mg once daily. The maximum recommended daily dose is 15 mg. Tablets should be taken with water, with or without food.

Storage:


Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
